Welcome to Angora Hobby Farm!
Welcome to Angora Hobby Farm!
Hi, I'm Vicki, a wife, a mom of two, stepmom of three, grandma of five, and a fiber artist from the U.S. I have a full-time day job and also a small fiber arts business. I'm so glad you found your way here! Pull up a cozy chair, grab a cup of tea, and let me tell you a little about this fiber-filled corner of the world.
Where It All Began
My love for fiber arts started in 1978 when I was just three years old. My mother and sister patiently taught me to crochet, guiding my small hands as I learned to turn simple yarn into something magical. I fondly remember proudly presenting my kindergarten teacher with a crocheted Christmas tree door hanger that I made myself! Perhaps her accolades began my motivation to keep creating all of these years. Those early chains were the beginning of what would become a lifelong passion for all things fiber.
A friend in school taught me basic knitting stitches in third grade (thank you, elementary school crafting sessions!), and I later taught myself more techniques, though I'm still learning. Over the decades, I've wandered happily through the world of crochet, knitting, quilting, spinning, weaving, cross-stitch, embroidery and felting (and even many non-fiber arts and crafts!) - always learning, always creating, always discovering something new to fall in love with.
How I Create
Here's a little secret: I'm a bit of a fiber arts butterfly! At any given moment, I have several projects going at once - a long-term quilt (or ten) here, a quick amigurumi there, maybe some spinning in between. I alternate between them depending on how I feel inspired each day. Some days call for the meditative rhythm of knitting, others for the playful creativity of designing a new plushie. This beautiful chaos keeps my creativity flowing and my hands happily busy!
Why I Share My Work
The truth is wonderfully simple: I love to create all the time, and I need somewhere for all these little treasures to go! My house can only hold so many handmade friends before my family stages an intervention. So I decided to share my work with people who might love and treasure these pieces as much as I loved making them.
There's something magical about working on a piece and wondering about its future. Where will this little dragon end up? Will this quilt comfort someone on cold winter nights? Will this amigurumi make a child giggle with delight? I love imagining the journeys these handmade items will take and the joy they might bring. My deepest hope is that at least a few of my creations find their way to people who truly treasure them.
The Heart of Handmade
You know what makes handmade items truly special? They're rare. They're unique. And most importantly - an artist held each one for hours, sometimes days, carefully crafting it stitch by stitch. Whether I knew who it was for or not, I poured time, care, and a little bit of my heart into every piece. That's something you simply can't replicate in a factory, no matter how efficient the machines.
My hope is that each person who comes across me throughout my fiber arts journey finds themselves smiling at a cute amigurumi, staying cozy in a handmade quilt or knit, or learning with me along the way!
Why the Name?
So, about that name - "Angora Hobby Farm." It's not just a cute title; it was a dream of mine. My long-term vision is to slowly build up this business so that it's well-established by the time I retire from my day job. Then? In the past, I wanted to have a small farm with several English Angora bunnies, but I won't sugarcoat it - Angora rabbits require a lot of care and maintenance of their luxurious fur. But I love incorporating their beautiful fiber into my creations, so we'll see if that dream ever becomes reality.
In the meantime, we have one Angora rabbit, Wigs, who is thoroughly convinced he's one of the dogs and absolutely certain he owns the house (spoiler alert: he might be right). He loves to snuggle and is the most chill, sweet bunny ever. It is his sweet personality that lets me know I will always have at least one English Angora.
Thank You
Thank you for being here, for supporting handmade, and for being part of this journey. Every purchase, every kind word, every share helps me get one step closer to that dream farm. But more than that, knowing that my creations might bring a little joy into your life? That's the real magic.
Happy creating, friends!
